About Me

About the photographer

Who is AxARob?  “I’m an over 40 victim of fate, arriving too late” (Jimmy Buffett).  He is a family man, married to the love of his life, Mary, for over a quarter of a century.  He has two sons, Brad and Andrew and a grandson, Drake.  Rob’s soul is deeply entrenched in the beauty of the Caribbean, but he resides in the land locked prairie state of Kansas.

What drove Rob to become a photographer?
Rob’s interest in photography began when he got his first SLR camera in highschool and followed him through college, and is blossoming in his adult life.  He has developed his love of shooting nature during his travels to Hawaii and the Caribbean Basin.

His goal is to shoot nature as he uniquely sees it, capturing the beauty in things and places throughout the Caribbean that many have viewed, but with a simplicity they may have missed.

Where did the AxA come from?
Rob and Mary took a day trip to Anguilla many years ago.  While visiting  Shoal Bay East, one of the world’s top ten beaches, they fell in love with Anguilla, who’s catch phrase is “Tranquility wrapped in Blue” which so aptly describes this quiet piece of paradise.  Rob chose to use the airport code “AXA” as the prefix to his name.   He changed the capital X to lower case x, creating his pen name “AxARob” blending his love for the Caribbean with his first name.

Today, you will always find Rob with a camera within easy reach.  If you look closely, even while shooting with his D-SLR, you will notice a point and shoot in one of his many pockets,  for those times when the large camera may not be the best choice.

This is how one of his friends and business associates describes Rob…
“Rob is a frequent visitor to the Leeward Islands and can often be found with a lens in hand, scouring the landscape for unique and inspiring sites.  Rob has an eye for the unusual and makes every effort to place the viewer in the relaxing scenes he captures.”
